Here is a step-by-step guide for agents and agencies detailing the nine essential actions required to set up their accounts and begin selling Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance plans using the platform.
Make sure you are FFM certified for the most recent plan year in order to sell Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance plans.
If you’re interested in selling ACA plans in a State-Based Marketplace (SBM), you must complete that state’s specific training and certification process.
Enter your correct FFM ID/Username. Without it, you will not be able to create, search, or update Marketplace applications.
Note: FFM ID is not required if you are only selling in Georgia Access SBM.
Get appointed with carriers offering ACA health insurance plans in the states where you're licensed.
Without carrier appointments, you can:
Do plan shopping
Submit eligibility applications
But you cannot complete plan selection or final enrollment.
CMS requires verification of your licensure in the states where you sell.
This is done using your NPN (National Producer Number) via NIPR.
You must enter the same information you used during your NIPR licensing application.
Without an NPN, you will not be able to create, search, or update Marketplace applications.
CMS requires all EDE partners to ensure agents and brokers link their FFM account with the CMS agent portal.
Agents who don’t link their account will not be able to:
Search the Marketplace
Create or submit applications
FFM link is valid for 12 hours at a time.
You must have entered a valid FFM ID and NPN before linking.
Next, verify your identity through the CMS Identity Management System.
A short identity verification process will be completed online.
If online verification fails, you will be guided through a manual identity verification process.
Set up your downline agents through Agency Management.
Click ‘Add Agent’ or ‘Invite Agent’ under the ‘Actions’ button.
The invited agent will receive an account activation email.
Each agent must complete the setup process:
Verify FFM ID and NPN
Complete identity verification
Set up carrier appointments
Link their account with FFM
The NPN Overrides feature allows agency admins to:
Designate override agents (EDE-enabled) for each carrier and state
Assign override agents to individual agents based on your structure
To set up:
Go to ‘NPN Management’ in the left menu
Designate ‘NPN Overrides’
Assign them to agents in your agency
Import your existing book of business to:
Manage customers
Report changes
Process renewals
To import:
Go to the ‘Applications’ page
Click ‘Import Applications’ under ‘Actions’
Follow the steps in the Import Wizard
When creating your JET EDE account (agency or independent):
You can also set up your branded consumer website for client self-enrollment.
The NPN on direct-to-consumer applications depends on:
Agent appointments
NPN override settings
For independent agents, the default NPN is the agent’s own.
To get started:
Go to ‘Consumer Website’ under ‘Settings’
